Our Sterling Silver Gifts come with a booklet explaining about the Hallmarks.
Hallmarking in the UK started in the year 1300 by Edward I, primarily in order to standardise the quality of the precious metal used. The Sterling Silver standard of 925 parts per 1000 was set at this time and is now used around the world to classify a quality product. Since the 14th Century hallmarking has been developed to include the Makers Mark, the Assay Office Mark and the Manufacturing Year, as well as the fineness of the metal.
