Unusual Wedding Gifts For An Unusual Wedding?

 Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

It would appear from an article in the Sydney Morning Herald that the trend for unusual weddings is growing all the time. It used to be the case that a parachuting bride and groom would hit the headlines, but now underwater weddings, zero-gravity weddings and even weddings on the summit of Everest are becoming the norm for thrill seekers looking for a wedding with a twist.

While exciting weddings certainly make for a good read, they present more than a few problems for any wedding guests involved, not least if your son or daughter want to tie the knot on the North Pole!

There’s also the question of what wedding gifts to buy for the adventurous couple involved. After all, what do you get for the couple who want to get married on a plane?!

The obvious choice is to get something related to the theme of the wedding, so an Ice Axe for a couple getting married on the slopes of Everest would of course be an entirely appropriate wedding gift!

As with all wedding gifts, personalisation is the key. Something that has been personalised to suit the couple involved will always be treasured, so even if you decide to be a bit more traditional with your wedding gift, having it engraved or personalised will make sure it leaves a lasting impression.

It can be tempting to stick to the wedding list if you’re unsure what to get, but a recent survey by Engraved Gift Ideas showed that 67% of couples favoured a wedding gift that was not on the list, so it is worth using a bit of imagination when deciding what to get.

Condoms And Underwear Named Among Britain’s Strangest Wedding Gifts (Press Release)

 Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

A comprehensive survey by a leading online retailer has revealed some of Britain’s strangest wedding gifts. The survey was open to over 8,000 visitors of wedding gift website Engraved Gift Ideas, and uncovered such unusual gifts as condoms, a salmon mould, a toilet roll holder and underwear.

The revelations were part of a wider survey examining the shopping habits of the country’s wedding guests and provided a unique insight into the nation’s gift tables.

Among the more surprising findings was the news that more than one in ten wedding guests do not take a gift to every wedding. The results show that 12% of guests have gone to a wedding empty handed, with younger guests the most likely to arrive without a gift, as 66% of those were aged between 16 and 30.

Other findings showed that although a large majority of guests stuck to the wedding gift list, with 56% taking the safe choice, an overwhelming 67% of couples revealed that their favourite gift was not something that was on their list.

Other results found that almost half of all married couples consider how much was spent on their wedding gift when returning the favour. The findings showed that newlyweds have a long memory when it comes to their wedding gifts, with 40% of married couples considering what a couple spent on their gift when it comes to buying for them.

Wedding guests are also more giving when it comes to family rather than friends, with 42% of guests spending up to £50 on relatives compared to a majority of 51% choosing to spend a maximum of £30 on friends.

It would also appear that older wedding guests are more likely to be generous, with just 6% of those aged 31-50 spending £10-£30 on their family compared with 17% of 16-30 year olds.

The survey also contained bad news for those who favour an extravagant wedding, with a massive 92% of guests admitting that they were not influenced by the size of the wedding when choosing a gift. Interestingly, wedding guests were more influenced in their choice of gift depending on whether they were invited to the whole day or just the reception, with 54% of those surveyed revealing they consider their guest status when choosing a gift.

Engraved Wedding Gifts For The Couple Who Have Everything

 Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Buying a wedding gift can be a tricky experience at the best of times. Although some couples use wedding gift lists and registries to announce what they would like to receive, many couples have already set up a home by the time they marry, and as such will already own many of the traditional gift items that people may have asked for in the past.

So where does that leave the frustrated wedding guest when the happy couple already own the very latest toaster and all of the kitchen equipment they will ever use?

Whatever you buy as a wedding gift, it has to fulfil a number of criteria. It has to be well received by the couple, it has to be something that they will either use or hold onto for years to come, and it has to be something personal to them.

Rather than just buying vouchers, engraved wedding gifts can provide a wonderful keepsake for the couple who have everything. They offer a personalised gift that will evoke an emotional response from the couple, ensuring it is a gift they will treasure for a lifetime. It is hard to receive this type of reaction from a toaster or a voucher, so by gifting a beautiful engraved wedding gift you will evoke a reaction that not many other guests will manage.

There’s Nothing Like A Good Wedding To Bring Down A Monarchy

 Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

If you are facing the daunting prospect of attending a lavish wedding this summer, spare a thought for the family of the personal trainer who married the heiress to the throne of Sweden. The cost of the wedding and the accompanying festival comes in at a cool £6 million, which has been met with more than a little ire by the Swedish taxpayer, who get the privilege of paying for half of it.

Cue the inevitable Facebook group protesting at the situation, but the real news is in the poll on how many Swedes want to keep the monarchy. From a level of 80% of happy Royalists in 2005, it has plummeted to 58% now. Not a brilliant time to have an unpopular wedding then.

According to reports the population are also unhappy about the Princess’s choice in men, with many said to be a little aggrieved at her suitor’s humble background.

Although this is all being played out on a very public stage, it isn’t a million miles away from most weddings that happen every day. There’s usually a vocal minority who don’t like the bride or groom, or someone who isn’t happy paying for the event, though the potential to bring down the thrown is in this case a one off.

Most people will also be able to sympathise with the family of the groom when it comes to choosing their weddings gifts. Most people have attended a large scale wedding and it can be slightly hard to know what to buy. What wedding gifts do you buy for a Princess and heir to the throne?!

Though most of us will never have to worry about attending a Royal wedding, we will more than likely be in a situation where we will have to buy gifts for a very expensive, lavish wedding.

It can be slightly intimidating and makes choosing a wedding gift even more difficult. The important thing to remember is that the same rules apply for large weddings that apply to intimate ones. In most cases there will be a wedding list to choose from, so if it’s something the couple has asked for, you can’t really go wrong. If you want to deviate from the list then that is more than acceptable, and if you are stuck for ideas then there are a few guidelines you can follow.

Judge your wedding gift by how close you are to the couple, not on how big the wedding is. There’s no point spending a fortune on a gift for someone you hardly know just because they are having a big wedding. If you want to get a more expensive wedding gift then do so, but save it for someone you are close to as it will mean more to them.

If you know the people who are getting married then you should know their interests, so stay safe and get them something that you know they will use and enjoy. Some of the best gifts are those that save somebody having to go out and buy it themselves, so unless the happy couple’s interests involve jewel collections and exotic holidays, you should be able to find something affordable that will be appreciated.

Engraved Gift Ideas have a wide selection of wedding gifts to suit all budgets, so whether you’re attending a Royal wedding in a palace or an intimate event with a knees up at the local, use Engraved Gift Ideas for a truly special personalised gift.

Wedding Favours – A Complete Guide

 Monday, May 24th, 2010

When organising a wedding, one thing that always gets left until last is the wedding favours. It can be tricky to know who to buy for. With many wedding racking up hundreds of guests, providing wedding favours for each of them can be an expensive task, not to mention the hassle of choosing something for everyone.

Engraved Gift Ideas have produced this handy guide to choosing your wedding favours for everyone without breaking the budget.

Wedding party first!
On top of the list of wedding favour recipients should be your wedding party. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, immediate family, anyone close to you who has made a big effort to make your day special. This should be your priority as these are the people who will be by your side throughout the day. Engraved luggage tags and compact mirrors make popular gift choices, as do personalised cufflinks and wine bottle stoppers if you want to pay a bit more.

Who else?
This really depends on how many people you are expecting. If you’re having a smaller, more intimate occasion, it can be quite possible to give everyone a gift without breaking the bank. If it’s a larger scale event with more people, you might want to consider being slightly choosier. If you are inviting fewer people to the ceremony, you could give favours to them as a thank you for witnessing your vows. If you want everyone to have a memento, you can think about buying things on a larger scale to try and save some money.

What to get?
If you plan to go all the way and get everyone a wedding favour, bear price in mind. If you are buying them last and have already spent most of your budget, there are still many ways of gifting something special without having to plough more money in. Try Engraved Gift Ideas’ new wedding favours section, where you can buy a selection of fully engraved gifts from £2.50 each.

Also remember that people aren’t going to want to carry around big bulky items all day, so get something that can fit in pockets or a handbag or you’ll end up with lots of them left at the reception.

If you’ve been a guest at a wedding before, just think about what wedding favours they used and what your reaction to them was. If something was particularly successful, try your own take on that idea.

Remember, you don’t have to break the bank. Visit www.engravedgiftideas.com/acatalog/favours_table_engraved_wedding_gifts.html for some personalised yet affordable wedding favour ideas.
